Many graduating high school students may not be taking their SAT score seriously. This is because it is allowed to take the exams multiple times. They do not realize that time may not be on their side. They may not get the score they want and the time to enroll in college has finally arrived.

The Scholastic Assessment Test or SAT is required for freshmen to be able to enter college. Colleges and universities may have higher cut-offs. It may also depend on the major you are going to take. This means getting a high SAT score can give you more options as to where to study college and the major that you will be taking.

While you may be allowed to take the SAT many times, it is best to aim for a high score the first time you take the exam. You will be free from reviewing and do other things. Here are some ways that can help you get a high SAT score.

Set a Target Score

If you want to be in the ivies, you should be doing intense preparations to have the highest possible SAT score. In contrast, smaller colleges near your residence admit students with average SAT scores though.

If you already know the right college and major for you, it is best to know the required SAT score in that college or university. This will help you determine how much time and effort you will be spending reviewing for the SAT.

Read, Take Note, and Write

Your reading comprehension and writing skills will be greatly challenged in the critical reading and essay writing sections of the SAT. These two sections comprise 800 points which is one half of the perfect SAT score. Start reading any material and take notes of the new vocabulary that comes along. Practice writing essays using the new words that you encountered. Let someone read your essays, like your teacher, and learn from comments.

Memorize Math Formulas

The other half of the SAT is math. It also has 800 points. To be able to get the correct answers in mathematical problem-solving questions, you must know the right formula. Start with the basic ones, like how to get the area, interest rate, and science-related formulas, like converting Fahrenheit to Celsius.

Take Practice Tests
